Silver-haired Bat
Lasyionicterius noctivagans
Silver-haired Bats were once the most common bat in the Adirondacks; now, they are the least encountered during summer surveys.
They prefer to roost underneath tree bark and in tree cavities and prefer willow, maple, and ash trees.
Silver-haired bats are one of the first bats to feed in the evening, sometimes before sunset.
The only time male and female Silver-haired Bats co-mingle is during migration and mating season.
Silver-haired Bats are initially born blind and deaf but gain their full senses soon after.
Silver-haired Bats can live as long as 12 years, and are migratory—they seek milder climates in the winter.
